Write a myth to explain why the sun rises and sets.

“Tell us a story,” one of them asked, as the group nestled along the grass.

“A story?” He parroted. Flaxen eyes hazing as he fled into his thoughts. “Sure I think I got something…”

Back home in Viridian our parents used to tell how the sun would rise and set.

How did it go…Well I remember it being different in each region, but I guess I can tell you Kanto’s? How did it go…? Oh.

That’s right.

Long ago, they used to say that the sun and the moon used to fight, not themselves of course, but Pokémon of the night, and Pokémon of the day. They’d fight. Which should last longer? Which should have more importance?

They clashed day in and day out. Pokémon got violent there were casualties. Lots of them. Enough to fill in Lavender Town’s cemetery three times over. It was…horryfing. Humans got scared. Children mostly.

Those who weren’t…Eventually realized what was going on and fought themselves.

Apparently, that led to trainers, but that’s a different story.

 Where was—Fighting.

Bloodshed.

Eventually the sides shrunk…shrunk…And they stopped. They had to recover, to heal, to wait. Fight again and risk more? Of course! That’s what they had to do.

But…The children didn’t want that.

The newly hatched Pokémon couldn’t have their parents die on them. Some were already orphaned. They couldn’t. Just…Couldn’t.

So they planned.

Humans and Pokémon, the original trainers, the children. They talked for days. The fighting went on.

So…

All of them, no matter how risky, ran into the field. Naturally their parents stopped. “Why are my children here? They’ll get hurt!”They ran forward and scooped up their children. So did the Pokémon’s parents.

There was chaos.

“This is your fault! They could’ve died!”

And they continued like that, that was, until there was a loud screech…two actually. One from an Eevee, daughter of the leader of Nocturnal Pokémon, another from a Charizard, strong and wise. Leader of daylight Pokémon.

They had enough of the fighting, so much family loss, and so much bloodshed, there was barely anyone to live in their village…

They explained it. All of it.

The humans seemed confused all during this that was, until a girl with hair as bright as the sun itself and a boy with hair as dark as night explained everything they were saying.

Eventually they started to understand…eventually everyone calmed down.

They talked.

And talked.

And eventually the Dark types and their recruits chose to honor the moon, chose to take care of it. The Fire types and their followers did the same.

“Wait, but you haven’t said why the sun and moon—”

“I know I know. Let me finish—”

It was a good thing they had become friends along the way, they could choose when to come out and play. When they could patrol the village and prevent anymore fighting.

They could keep the sun and moon in line.

“You know it’s kind of silly hearing it now that I’m older.” Luken admitted with an awkward laugh. “And there you go.

Maybe I’ll tell you something else next time.”
